Upstage Players is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
UpStage Players will embark on our 23rd year with performances of Fiddler On The Roof, Jr. All of this will take place in March 2017, but the preparations have begun behind the scenes with those off the stage events that assure that the show will go on as scheduled.
Calling the Lakeshore Facility library in Cleveland, with its 600 seat auditorium our home is a tradition begun three years ago. This year the presentation will once again feature cast and crew front and center. Costumes, sound, lights and most importantly children ages 7 to 15 will journey to Anatevka with music, dancing and learning the value of family and perseverance.
In addition to the performance, and through the generosity of Kiwanis Club #2, we will feature our unique Builders Club Community Service component. This year we will build a free Little Lending Library in Cleveland at O. H. Perry School. The premise of the library is you may take a book, leave a book or return the book. Our library will be built in a design of a theatre and will feature some books that deal with the performing arts. Children involved in theatre learn from that involvement and the performing arts bring out many talents – by sharing books we hope to encourage others to enjoy not only reading but to instill a vision of performing, painting or writing. Sounds easy, YES!
UpStage continues with their no cut policy! If you want to be part of the production you are included. We continue to operate on an all-volunteer basis; everyone volunteers to create the show and assuring a great performance. This year we are encouraging greater involvement of alumni, some of whom have gone onto roles in theatre! We are proud as they have begun to bring their children back to recreate part of their youth that was performing with UpStage; yes, we have been around that long.
While ticket sales and fund raising revenue are a vital part of our income, this annual appeal is critical to putting the show on stage. Performing arts, especially, are among the first cuts when budgets come into play. Performing arts are a teaching tool, a confidence builder, and a bringing out of hidden talents. Students of the arts learn discipline, structure, working with others and how to believe in themselves. The reward of the applause is theirs to earn through rehearsal, accomplishment and participation.
Will you help insure those that audition will be able to participate? Thanking you in advance.
Sincerely, Bernadette Walsh

Welcoming our newest Board Member,
A Letter from Mrs. Walsh...
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our newest Board Member John Calabrese. John is an alumni of UpStage and performed on Opening Night last year to help welcome in our 22nd year. We know that John will be an asset to our group and hopefully will generate interest in UpStage with alumni. Thank you John for saying yes.
For our 23rd year we have selected Fiddler On The Roof, Jr., a timeless classic that shares family and perseverance in a struggling world. Please mark your calendars for March 24, 25th and 26th, 2017 - we hope to see you in attendance.
